Thank you for reading today's update!
Angle on Ida, Ren is offscreen. Ida catches herself and puts her arm down, thinking that Ren doesn’t want to be touched. Ida’s other hand is up to hold her face, ashamed.
IDA: Nice going, Ida...
Angle on Ren, sitting on the bleachers amongst a crowd of students in a high school gymnasium. Ren is looking down, flustered and embarrassed. Below the bleachers stands MAYOR RUSKIN on the gymnasium floor in front of a microphone.
Ren is imploding with anxiety. Like Ida’s massive speech bubble, her words here don’t have to all be readable. The text should look cluttered and overlapping to display her cluttered headspace.
MAYOR RUSKIN: WELCOME STUDENTS-
REN (Voiceover): I can’t believe I did that. Things were supposed to be good today. Things are supposed to be orderly. I’m involved now, right? Why am I acting like such a fool then? Running around in the middle of the street like an imbecile… Nothing’s changed, I’m just a part of this dumb competition and everything is the same as it ever was. It said I was special? What’s so special about me? I’m just a screw-up
Panel 2
Ren bows her head, growing redder and redder. Around Ren are thought bubbles showing Ida’s face and eyes. Ruskin’s words can be small, they aren’t all that important and just offer background detail to the scene. Ren is clearly not focusing on the assembly and is lost in her thoughts.
RUSKIN: I have assembled this meeting for a very important reason,
REN (Voiceover): Who even was that girl anyway? What was she doing just standing there? The nerve of her. Gazing at me with those big brown eyes. The way she looked at me it just- and she goes to this school too! She’s probably looking at me right now, staring me down and wishing I was dead. Staring at me with those big, rich, sparkly eyes. What was it she said about me? She said I was-
Panel 3
The same angle as the last panel, but Ren’s head now perks up from where she was, now listening to the Mayor’s words. This is the only part the other students are listening to also.
RUSKIN: Our city has tried to put a stop to this Spirit-related fighting but have been unable to contain the magical threat.
RUSKIN: In light of these events, class has been postponed for the remainder of the school year until the “Competition” has reached its end.
RUSKIN: So in the interest of returning to your schoolwork promptly and becoming successful students…
RUSKIN: Please! Just get this sword fight tournament over with!
